Mauritania accord hits roadblock

Mauritanian political rivals are at a stalemate, prompting the oversight committee tasked with assuring implementation of the recently-signed accord to call on the African Union Security Council to hold an emergency meeting as soon as possible, Journal Tahalil reported on Thursday (June 18th). While the agreement aimed at restoring constitutional order to Mauritania did not address the fate of the junta's ruling council (HCE), deposed President Sidi Ould Cheikh Abdellahi has set the dissolution of the junta as a condition for his official resignation.
