Abdellahi open to Senegal mediation efforts in Mauritania
2009-05-10
In a statement issued on Saturday (May 9th), former Mauritanian President Sidi Mohammed Ould Cheikh Abdellahi voiced support for any foreign effort aimed at facilitating a national dialogue involving all the political actors in the country, local and international press reported. The statement followed Abdellahi's meeting with Senegalese Foreign Minister Cheikh Tidiane Gadio, who arrived in Mauritania last week to deliver Senegalese President Abdoulaye Wade's plan for ending the political crisis. Reportedly, the Senegal proposal includes a postponement of June 6th presidential elections.
