Kadhafi invites deposed Mauritanian president to Libya
2009-03-04
As part of ongoing mediation efforts to resolve Mauritania's political crisis, Libyan leader and African Union Chairman Moamer Kadhafi invited deposed Mauritanian President Sidi Mohamed Ould Cheikh Abdellahi to visit Libya on Friday (March 6th), ANI reported on Tuesday (March 3rd). Abdellahi reportedly accepted the invitation under specific conditions, including the return of his passport and a reception in Libya befitting a democratically elected president.
Kadhafi was to meet Tuesday in Tripoli with National Assembly President Messaoud Ould Belkheir. The African Union Chairman has already held similar meetings with junta leader General Mohamed Ould Abdelaziz, opposition leader Ahmed Ould Daddah and a delegation of the anti-coup National Front for Defence of Democracy (FNDD).
