EU to observe 2009 Algerian presidential elections

2008-05-11

The EU will send a mission of observers to Algeria during the April 2009 presidential elections, El Khabar reported on Sunday (May 11th). According to Richard Balf of the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance, measures to be implemented in Algeria include sending observers 3 months before the elections to guarantee transparency. The measures reflect the recommendations after the 2004 elections and discussions with Algerian political parties aimed at ensuring the integrity of the poll, he said.
