2009-09-09

Libya's top energy official will not attend the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) meeting in Vienna on Wednesday (September 9th), local and international press reported. According to Libya Alyoum, Dr. Shokri Ghanem resigned last week as National Oil Corporation (NOC) chairman and reportedly handed over his responsibilities to Economy, Industry and Trade Secretary Mohammed Al-Hwaij. NOC Director Ali al-Sogheir, who will represent Libya at the OPEC meeting, declined to comment on Ghanem's status, AP reported.
