Tunisian U-18 women post wins in CAN hoops tournament
2008-10-05 Tunisia's U-18 women's basketball team defeated Mozambique 58-54 Saturday (October 4th) in Radès in their second game of the CAN 2008 championship. In their opening match Friday, Tunisia beat Benin 58-42. Tunisia is the only Maghreb team among twelve vying for the title.
Tunisia's Cuelho names squad for Seychelles qualifier
2008-10-05 Tunisian national coach Umberto Cuelho announced his final list of players for the African/World Cup qualifier against Seychelles October 11th in Rades and the friendly with France October 14th in Paris. At a press conference Friday (October 3rd), Cuelho said he chose players in good form, especially internationals such as Radhi Jaidi, Issam Jomaa and Alaeddine Yahia. The list also includes top local players Mohamed Ali Nafkha, Ammar Jemal and Wissem Ben Yahia.
CS Sfaxien wins CAF Cup match
2008-10-05 Defending champions CS Sfaxien beat Angola's Interclube 3-2 Friday (October 3rd) in Luanda to boost their chances of a final berth in the African Confederation Cup. Sfaxien are level on points with Tunisian rivals Club Africain, who will host Egypt's Haras El Hadood in another Group A match on Sunday. In a CAF Cup Group B match Saturday, Tunisian squad Etoile du Sahel drew 2-2 against Ghana's Asante Kotoko in Kumasi and also moved a step closer to the finals. Another Group B match Sunday pits Algeria's JS Kabylie at home in Tizi Ouzou against El Merreikh of Sudan.
International agricultural fair opens next week in Tunisia
2008-10-05 Tunisia will host the eighth International Agricultural Investment and Technology Fair (SIAT) on October 8th-11th. Some 208 exhibitors are expected, including 70 foreign companies from Italy, France, Spain, Belgium, Austria, Poland, UAE and Canada.
Maghreb teams face CAF Cup matches this weekend
2008-10-03 Maghreb teams will play several matches this weekend for the fifth and penultimate day of the African Confederation (CAF) Cup pool stage. In Group A, Tunisia's CS Sfaxien will play Angola's Interclube Friday night (October 3rd) in Luanda. A Group B match is set for Saturday in Kumasi between Tunisia's Etoile du Sahel and Ghana's Asante Kotoko. On Sunday, Group A leader Club Africain of Tunisia will host Egyptian club Haras el Hodoud at El Menzah stadium. Algeria's JS Kabylie hosts El-Merrikh of Sudan for a Group B match the same day.
Spain to host Euro-Maghreb Youth Forum
2008-10-03 Young people from Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, Mauritania and Libya will join their peers from European Mediterranean countries October 8th in Burgos, Spain for the 4th Euro-Maghreb Youth Forum, MAP reported on Thursday (October 2nd). The event is organised by the Union des Jeunes Euro-Maghrébins (UJEM) and the Fédération des Associations des Jeunes Entrepreneurs (FAJE).
Japanese cable plants to create 6,000 Tunisian jobs
2008-10-03 Japanese groups Sumitomo and Yazaki will build new cable production plants in Tunisia, generating 6,000 jobs, TAP reported on Wednesday (October 1st). The country currently produces 2% of the world's total automotive wire and cable and is the sixth largest provider of car cables to Europe, for brands such as Audi, Volkswagen, Mercedes, Renault and Fiat. Some 65 foreign car cable companies from Germany, France and Italy are operating already in Tunisia, and the sector employs 25,418 people.
Tunisian farmers launch organic fruit exports to Europe
2008-10-03 A group of 47 Tunisian farmers in the Chenini area have started exports of organic pomegranates to France, Ansa reported on Thursday (October 2nd). The organic food production project was begun as part of a programme to safeguard the Chenini oasis, which included professional training courses for the farmers.
Tunisia to build 14 water desalinisation plants in south
2008-10-02 Tunisian water distribution company Sonede announced plans Tuesday (September 30th) to build 24 desalinisation plants as part of a national programme to improve water quality in the southern part of the country. Construction of plants in Tozeur, Nefta and Herzoua has already begun.
