EU official urges Mauritania to promote gender equality

The head of the EU delegation to Nouakchott on Monday (March 8th) called on Mauritanian authorities and civil society organisations to "meet the challenge of gender equality", PANA reported. In a statement on the occasion of International Women's Day, Hans-Georg Gerstenlauer noted that discrimination against women is a phenomenon present in Mauritania and around the world. He also stressed that the promotion of human rights is "at the heart" of EU development and assistance policy.
