Alleged killers of Kabylie poet face Algiers trial

04/11/2009

The suspected killers of renowned Kabylie poet Maâtoub Lounès will be tried in Algiers next December, Echorouk reported on Tuesday (November 3rd). Even though Lounès was assassinated in 1998 near the Tizi-Ouzou village of Tala Bounane, his alleged assassins' trial had to be moved from its original jurisdiction for security reasons. Ten defendants are charged with premeditated murder and formation of an armed terrorist group. All but two will be tried in absentia.
