Senegal returns French embassy bombing suspects to Mauritania

Senegal last week extradited three Mauritanian suspects wanted in connection with the suicide bomb attack on the French embassy in Nouakchott, Dakar daily Le Quotidien reported on Tuesday (November 3rd). Late Friday night, Mauritanian authorities met Senegalese gendarmes at the countries' shared border to retrieve Ahmed Ould Ahmed, Seydou Kane and an unnamed suspect.
After his apprehension in Keur Massar last August, Ould Ahmed allegedly admitted his al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb affiliation to Senegal's GIGN interrogators. Kane, meanwhile, is a former member of the African Liberation Forces of Mauritania (FLAM).
In a statement posted on a radical Islamist website, al-Qaeda claimed responsibility for the August 8th embassy attack. It was Mauritania's first-ever suicide bombing.
