Morocco's Istiqlal party names El Fassi to 3rd term

Morocco's ruling Istiqlal (Independence) Party (PI) appointed Abbas El Fassi as Secretary-General for a third term on Saturday (January 10th) at the end of the party's national congress, MAP reported. Before the election, the congress amended the party statute to allow the party head to seek a third term. Following Istiqlal's sweep of the 2007 legislative elections, El Fassi was named Morocco's Prime Minister. The party holds 52 seats in the lower chamber of the Moroccan Parliament.
