Al-Qaeda terrorist surrenders in Algeria, discloses plans for December 11 attacks

A repentant terrorist surrendered to Algerian security services on Eid and claimed terror attacks were planned for Thursday (December 11th), Echorouk reported. The 30-year-old Bordj Menaîl native reportedly disclosed plans for suicide attacks in the country to mark the first anniversary of the December 11th deadly twin bombings of a UN office and a government building in Algiers. The man, who claimed he had participated in Abdelmalek Droukdel's terrorist organisation for two years, surrendered his Kalashnikov and several marked maps indicating terrorist stockpiles and bomb-making facilities in Boumerdes province (50 km east of Algeria). Algerian troops raided the sites indicated on the map and reportedly found food, clothes and money stored in the hideouts. Policemen with bomb detectors and dogs have also been deployed in Algiers, Boumerdes and Tizi Ouzou to foil any attacks.
The December 11, 2007 twin bombings killed at least 41 people, including 17 UN employees.
