Algerian terrorists confess oil pipeline bomb plot

12/10/2008

Three Algerian terror suspects said their cell planned to blow up the 170km-long oil pipeline linking Hassi Messaoud to Touggourt in the Algerian Sahara during the holy month of Ramadan, Echorouk reported on Friday (October 10th). The men, who face trial this week in the southern province of Ouargla, also reportedly confessed to security officers that their group was planning abductions of foreign expatriates working for oil and gas companies based in the south of the country.

In related news, security forces killed four terrorists Saturday (October 11th) in northern Tlemcen, El Khabar reported. Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika is visiting Tlemcen through Monday (October 13th) to launch several economic, socio-educational and cultural projects.

The region concerned in the topic “Algerian terrorists confess oil pipeline bomb plot” is the region of Tiguert, Ouargala. It is an uncovered desert region. It experiences very high traffic. It is a quiet region. It is almost impossible to commit terrorist acts there especially operations of kidnapping or blowing up the oil pipeline”. This is confirmed by the fact that the region never witnessed such acts since the French colonization.
