10/10/2008

Fresh flooding in Algeria killed six people and injured eight on Thursday (October 9th), local press reported. The victims were surprised in their sleep, when two houses collapsed in the Ain Torki region, 146km west of Algiers. Last week, floods in southern Algeria killed 34 people. Flood-ravaged Ghardaia province (600km south of Algiers), continues to receive disaster assistance, APS reported on Friday (October 10th). To raise funds for disaster victims, the Algerian Red Crescent sponsored a benefit concert Thursday night in Tizi-Ouzou (103km east of Algiers) featuring singers Akli Yahiatene, Lani Rabah, Taleb Rabah and comedian Amar.
