Moroccan terror cell suspects make first appearance before judge

10/09/2008

Members of the dismantled "Fath Al Andalous" terrorist network appeared for the first time before the Salé court examining judge on Tuesday (September 9th), MAP reported. The 15 suspects face multiple terrorism charges, including planning attacks and possessing electronic equipment and chemicals used in making explosives. In its coverage of yesterday's court hearing, Aujourd'hui le Maroc credited the arrests to "remarkable co-operation" between Moroccan and Spanish security services.

Among the 15 people arrested are a 29-year-old tailor, a 23-year-old merchant and his former soldier brother. An unidentified security analyst quoted by Aujourd'hui le Maroc said al-Qaeda is seeking to "recruit agents whose judicial record is blank".
