Mauritania plans 10% wage hike for public sector workers

The Mauritanian government will increase public sector wages by 10% as of July 1st to maintain people's purchasing power, PANA reported on Friday (June 27th). The move is one of several measures taken by the authorities to maintain people's purchasing power and alleviate the food crisis. To cope with the threat of food insecurity in 2008, the Mauritanian government has established an intervention programme ensuring food security and structural reforms in the agricultural sector.
