FDI into Morocco reach nearly $3 billion in 2005

17/10/2006

Foreign direct investment (FDI) into Morocco increased from $1.07 billion to $2.9 billion from 2004 to 2005, Marwane Mansouri, head of the studies and information department of Investment Direction, said at the presentation of the 2006 report on investments in the world issued by the UN Conference on Trade and Development. The telecommunications, tourism, real estate, industry, and insurance sectors made up a major part of FDI.

In the first half of this year, the foreign investments committee approved 33 projects. FDI amounted to about $2.31 billion and contributed to the creation of 7,664 job opportunities in the same period, making this year a "record year" for the committee, Mansouri said. Maybe it’s regretful to call for rescue whenever we try to express ourselves and find out that the path we want to take is hindered by realities which make our reformist or idle efforts void since we got independence. We cannot limit failure in education on the basis that the State spent significant money, and we won’t say that it produced nothing, it produced a lot, because the immigration of qualified people have exceeded all description. The investor who came with a few billions and become rich immediately, and there are some who ran away and many other examples, money and the billions of dollars is today the property pf Moroccans who haven’t and won’t invest in Morocco. Their money is enough to cover all needs. They say what they want, but have we asked them in public to make declarations, and I don’t think that they’re not nationalist or not jealous for their country, and this is the appropriate question?
