Tunisia highlights women's sports on National Woman's Day

2008-08-13

As part of Tunisia's celebration of National Woman's Day on Wednesday (August 13th), the Tunisian Volleyball Federation will host an amateur beach volleyball tournament at El Haouaria on August 13th, La Presse reported. The women's national football team has also organised a "supercup" match August 16th in Manouba between Tunisian champion ASF Sahel and current holder of the cup, ISSEPC Kef.

In a report published this week on the state of women's sports, Info Tunisie noted the "qualitative leap" in the performance level of team sports in Tunisia, specifically women's football and handball. For the first time, Tunisian female footballers qualified for the African Cup of Nations scheduled for November in Equatorial Guinea.

National Woman’s Day commemorates Tunisia’s adoption of the Personal Status Code on August 13, 1956 which gave Tunisian women the legal pre-requisites for equality.
