Maghreb nations win medals at Africa Track and Field Championships

Algeria's Issam Nima won the bronze medal at 8.37m in the men's long jump at the African Track and Field Championships, which started Wednesday (9 August) at Germain Commarmond Stadium in Bambous, Mauritius. Morocco's Hayat Elghazi won the silver in the women's hammer throw at 59.33m and Tunisian Mohammed Medded won the bronze medal in the men's shot put at 17.87m.

Moroccan athletes withdrawing from the championships include Mohssine Chehibi, who was fourth at the Athens Olympics, Amine Laalou, Hasna Benhassi, world championship and Olympic silver medallist at 800m, Yassine Bensghir, former world junior champion at 1500m, and 5000m runners Abderrahim El Goumri, Hicham Bilani and Khaled El Amri.
