Algerian football player Rabah Madjer was named the best Arab footballer of the century by a newspaper in the UAE. This distinction is important to Algeria because other Arab countries have celebrity footballers like Moroccan Benbarek, Tunisian Tarek Diab and Egyptian Mohamed El-Khateeb. Madjer, an African Golden Ball winner, played in both the 1982 and 1986 World Cup and served recently as national team coach. (Le Jeune Independent)
