E-government is a "strategic objective for the economic and social development of the country," Moroccan Prime Minister Driss Jettou said at the opening of the annual national E-Forum 2005.
Morocco cannot stay on the fringes of the universal digital society because it would hinder its competitiveness and development efforts, Jettou said. According to the prime minister, the government is accelerating the integration of new information technologies in the economic, educational and public sectors in compliance with the action plan drawn up by the e-government committee for 2005-2008.
Jettou also underlined the importance of promoting citizens' use of information technologies, noting that the government has approved a one billion dirham-programme aiming to establish 8,500 multimedia rooms in schools from 2005-2008. (Arabic News)
