Moroccan House of Representatives Adopts FTA With US

The Moroccan House of Representatives adopted a free-trade agreement (FTA) with the United States on Thursday (13 January). Minister-delegate for foreign affairs and co-operation Taib Fassi Fihri, who served as chief negotiator when the agreement was reached in June, said negotiations were tailored towards Morocco's unique economic and social situation.
Under the FTA, industry and sea fisheries products will be exempted from customs duties and textile goods will receive preferential treatment in order to boost competitiveness for the sectors. Morocco is the second Arab country after Jordan and the first African country to enter into a FTA with the US. (MAP)
