Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia Co-sponsor UN Resolution on Religious Harmony

The UN General Assembly adopted a Pakistan-sponsored resolution entitled "Promotion of Religious and Cultural Understanding, Harmony and Co-operation" on Wednesday (15 December). The other 20 resolution co-sponsors included Algeria, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Cape Verde, China, Costa Rica, Djibouti, Ecuador, Egypt, Iran, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Morocco, Panama, East Timor, Sudan, Tajikistan, Togo and Tunisia.
The resolution contains principles of enhancing human welfare, worldwide freedom and progress, forging harmony and understanding among all peoples and seeking peaceful solutions to conflicts and disputes. It reaffirms the solemn commitment of all states to fulfill their obligations to promote universal respect for, observance and protection of all human rights and fundamental freedoms in accordance with the UN charter.
