Tremors in Morocco Cause Anxiety and Fear
2004-12-12
Since last Thursday (9 December), the Nador province in Morocco has been feeling a series of tremors and minor earthquakes that register between magnitude 3 and 5 on the Richter scale. So far no casualties have been reported, though the Moroccan press has issued many reports concerning widespread fear -- especially because neighbouring Algeria has been hit by the same calamity over the past month.
The most serious tremor was felt on Thursday in Nador, Laaroui and Selouane. Many people in the risk zones have set up tents because they fear being trapped in collapsed buildings. Some buildings in the Nador area have suffered slight cracks. Some instances of efforts to strengthen at-risk buildings have been reported. (albawaba.com)
