Earlier this week, the European Commission (EC) proposed negotiating directives with regard to a co-operation accord with Morocco to expand the Galileo civil satellite navigation system.
"The prospect of a new Galileo co-operation agreement, this time with Morocco, highlights the success of this European programme. Such an agreement will enable Galileo to become established in the western Mediterranean and West Africa," said European Union transport commissioner Jacques Barrot.
A 3.4 billion euro satellite system, Galileo aims to build a worldwide navigation network. The EC has Galileo co-operation accords with Israel and China and is in discussions to initiate similar agreements with Australia, India, Mexico, Russia, South Korea and Ukraine. (albawaba.com)
