Mohamed Benchicou, managing editor of the Algerian French-language newspaper Le Matin, and journalist Abla Cherif were found not guilty in a defamation case filed against them by the Algerian Ministry of Defence. Cherif wrote an article uncovering abuses by the National Gendarmerie against a group of young recruits and Benchicou penned an editorial on the same subject. Benchicou has been in prison since June of this year. (El Khabar)
