According to Moroccan newspaper L’Economiste, two new youth centres are planned for the Sidi Moumen and Nassim districts of Casablanca at the end of 2006. Mohamed M'jid, president of the Moroccan Foundation for Youth Initiatives and Development, said the centres aim to reduce crime in the two economically disadvantaged neighbourhoods by half.
With a total investment of 1.2m Moroccan dinars, the centres are funded largely by Moroccan double Olympic medallist Hicham El Guerrouj. The centres will have sports, counselling and learning facilities. The program was officially launched 26 November to mark International Day for the Eradication of Poverty. (albawaba.com)
