the parliamentarians agreed to improve child welfare
Some 50 Arab parliamentarians, including representatives from North Africa, wrapped up two days of talks in Amman, Jordan with a renewed pledge to improve child welfare by passing and enforcing legislation. In adopting the Amman Declaration and Plan of Action for Arab Children, the parliamentarians agreed to improve child welfare monitoring mechanisms by ensuring sufficient funds.
Lawmakers also debated ways to bring domestic legislation in line with the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC). While the majority of parliamentarians agreed on the importance of adhering to the CRC's provisions, they stressed the importance of Islamic law in any decision pertaining to legislative change.
