2004-11-17
A recently published manual by the human rights organisation Global Rights, in co-ordination with the Moroccan El Aman Association for Development of Women in Society, is sparking debate in the Moroccan press. Presented at an event in Rabat, the 420-page Arabic language "Making Human Rights Real: A Human Rights Education Programme for Women in Morocco," will soon be available in Algeria and Tunisia.
it doesn't just provide women legal information about their human rights -- it also develops their personal capacities
The manual outlines a programme to empower North African women. "This programme is unique because it doesn't just provide women legal information about their human rights -- it also develops their personal capacities to defend their rights and to mobilise collectively for change," said Halima Oulami, El Aman Association president.
