Moroccan Jewish Community Sends Condolences on Arafat's Death

The Council of Jewish Communities in Morocco sent a message of condolence on Yasser Arafat's death to Mahmoud Abbas, newly elected PLO chairman and temporary successor to Arafat.

The community said they feel genuine sorrow, describing Arafat as a man "who strove to establish an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital". The community also expressed hope that hatred in the region will cease and that Israelis and Palestinians can recreate the fraternity of Abraham.

Morocco has a small Jewish community of about 3,000 who are allowed to maintain contacts with relatives in Israel. (albawaba.com)
