2004-11-10
Five people were killed in violent attacks by Islamic extremists in Algeria earlier this week, according to local press reports Wednesday (10 November). The attacks occurred in the Relizane region west of Algiers. While on patrol in the Relizane town of Sidi M'Hamed Benaouda, two police officers were gunned downed by an unknown number of assailants. Three civilians were killed in the crossfire. The Algerian government is fighting several groups, principally in the south. The groups have taken refuge in neighbouring Mali and other African countries. (albawaba.com)
