US Adds Morocco to new aid List
2004-11-09
Washington added Morocco to a list of nations eligible for a share of $1 billion in aid on Monday (8 November). For the second year, the Bush administration selected 16 nations for its Millennium Challenge Account, a programme that provides funds in exchange for economic and democratic reforms. In addition to Morocco, the 15 nations selected last year remain on the list for 2005. The administration set aside $40m this year for these countries to encourage reforms that could eventually make them eligible for the larger fund programme. (Reuters)
