France Seeks Fresh Start in Algerian Relations

Fifty years after the beginning of the Algerian war for independence, France seeks to open a new era in its relations with Algeria by signing a friendship treaty. French President Jacques Chirac has urged his cabinet ministers to visit Algiers more frequently and to deal with their Algerian counterparts as "partners". Six French ministers have visited Algiers since April 2004 to discuss aspects of the friendship agreement relating to their respective government portfolios. (AngolaPress)
