Tunisian President Announces Amnesty for Islamists

Tunisian President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali announced on Tuesday (2 November) provisional amnesty for an unspecified number of Islamists jailed more than 12 years. The move is on the heels of talks among Ben Ali, the ministers of interior and local development, and Bechir Tekkari, minister of justice and human rights. The amnesty marks the 17th anniversary of Ben Ali's rise to power on 5 November. (tunezine.com)
