Algerians on Monday (1 November) celebrated the 50th anniversary of their revolution with fireworks, cannon salvos and a symphony of car horns at the stroke of midnight. The streets of Algiers were jammed as the weekend of celebrations took place in Ramadan. The main fireworks display was at Martyrs Memorial on one of the hills overlooking Algiers.
