Algeria’s Most Wanted Terrorist Arrested

The Algerian Interior Ministry announced on Thursday (28 October) that Amar Saifi, accused of kidnapping 32 European vacationers last year, was taken into custody by Algerian police. Saifi was extradited from Libya to Algeria on Wednesday. He is considered second in command of the Salafist Group for Preaching and Combat (GSPC).

He allegedly led a kidnapping operation that held a group of mainly German tourists for several months in 2003 in the Algerian Sahara. One of the tourists died of heat exhaustion while in captivity.
