Algerian-US Friendship Parliamentary Group to Foster Bilateral Relations
2004-10-25
The president of the National People's Assembly (APN), Amar Saidani, met with US Ambassador to Algeria Richard Erdman on Saturday (23 October) and agreed to establish an Algerian-US friendship parliamentary group. Erdman reiterated Washington's support for "reforms initiated by Algeria in different fields", particularly the economy, the justice system, education and women's rights. In an official statement, the APN described the meeting as an opportunity for both sides to discuss questions of common interest and the convergence of views concerning Maghreb and African co-operation, in order to strengthen opportunities for rapprochement.
