Morocco still has one of the world's highest levels of corruption and the problem is getting worse, according to the annual Transparency International (TI) Corruption Perceptions Index, published Wednesday (20 October). Out of a top score of 10, Morocco mustered only 3.2 and was ranked in 77th place worldwide -- a decline from 70th in 2003 and 52nd in 2002. Bachir Rachdi, former director of TI in Morocco, says the problem will damage investment prospects if it is not addressed. The index ranked Mali, Egypt and Turkey at about the same level as Morocco. Tunisia, however, ranked considerably higher, in 39th place.
