Algerian Youth Aware of Tobacco Dangers
2004-11-19
Although secondary school pupils in Constantine are "very aware" of the dangers of tobacco, cigarette use in their age group is on the rise. A study of the smoking habits of 1,238 students by Constantine's teaching hospital found that 83 per cent of boys smoke while 56.5 per cent of girls smoke "occasionally". However, it appears that anti-smoking information is having an effect on students. The study found that 78.6 per cent of students want to quit smoking and an overall 30 per cent refuse smoking materials in social situations. (Liberte)
