Average income per head has tripled from 1986 to 2004
A recently published report by the Tunisian Ministry of Development and International Co-operation in Le Temps on 4 November identified the changing nature of the Tunisian family. According to the report, 90 per cent of Tunisians have clean drinking water and electricity and 80 per cent are homeowners. Average income per head has tripled from 1986 to 2004 and only 4.2 per cent of the population falls below the poverty line.
The number of women in the work force climbed 19 per cent in the 20-30 age range between 1975 and 2004 and by 24 per cent in the 30-40 age range. Females currently represent 55.1 per cent of the total number of students as opposed to only 22 per cent in 1970. (menareport.com)
