Moroccan authorities dismantled a terrorist network that allegedly recruited 20 suicide bombers and guerrilla fighters for al-Qaeda in Iraq, Somalia and Afghanistan, MAP reported on Thursday (September 24th). Some 24 suspects in several cities were apprehended as part of the co-ordinated security operation. According to a statement by the Interior Ministry, the cell was also planning a large-scale terrorist act in Morocco.
In other news, Italian police arrested an Algerian terror suspect, AKI reported on Tuesday. In 2003, Algeria issued an extradition order against the unidentified 41-year-old for participation in the Armed Islamic Group (GIA). He has been on the run ever since.
