Algerian human rights commission seeks to restore international status
2009-08-28
Algeria began attempting to restore the international legitimacy of its National Commission on the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights (CNPPDH), local press reported on Thursday (August 28th). Two months after the state body lost accreditation with its UN governing committee, President Abdelaziz Bouteflika on Wednesday called for a new judicial statute aimed at improving CNPPDH transparency and reintegrating it into UN structures.
Some Algerian human rights activists, however, remain sceptical about what a new judicial statute can achieve. "Even if the Commission's international status is restored, it will still lack credibility," El Watan quoted a member of the non-governmental Algerian League for the Defence of Human Rights (LADDH) as saying.

If courts keep on operating in this way, as it happened to Naoulis, for example (most courts in Algeria are operated under the articles of some special laws whether in procedures or sanctions) we'll reach the level of slavery in Algeria. I won't say much, so that I won't be accused of animosity towards Algeria and sentenced to death or prison.
