Algeria, Libya, Mali to unite against al-Qaeda

2009-07-21

Algeria, Libya and Mali will co-operate to fight security threats linked to al-Qaeda in the Sahel-Saharan strip, Malian start-run newspaper L' Essor reported on Monday (July 20th). "These threats cross borders," Malian President Amadou Toumani Touré was quoted as saying. "We decided to pool our military and intelligence agencies to combat this problem." Touré said the decision to co-ordinate counter-terrorism efforts was made last week during talks with Libyan leader Moamer Kadhafi and Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika at the 15th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt.

A free "Cheers!" to these gentlemen, if they are of good faith. Let us begin with the camps in Tindouf, which represent the number-one terrorist training centres. Please, close these "refugee camps", encourage the civilian populations to return home to Morocco, Algeria, Mali or elsewhere and integrate the soldiers into the official armies of the concerned countries. This is surely the best solution to fight against al-Qaeda and similar terrorist movements and to guarantee peace for the peoples of the region. They are truly tired of these fake problems and of terrorism in all its forms, both formal and informal. A word to the wise!

To Simo, I like the way you signed off your article with the words: "A word to the wise", the only problem is that these words emanate from [...]* you. Is this the way you solve the problem of the Sahrawi refugees? By kicking them out of their safe havens and forcing them to return to the regime that tried to wipe them out in the first place. I am amazed no one has thought of this ingenious plan of yours. Is this the way you solve problems in Morocco, by sweeping them under the carpet?
