No appeal for Cheb Mami
2009-07-17
Algerian rai superstar Cheb Mami, 42, will not appeal the 5-year prison sentence imposed earlier this month by a French court, AFP quoted his attorney as saying on Wednesday (July 15th). Soon after his conviction for a 2005 forced-abortion attempt on his ex-girlfriend, the singer hinted that he wanted to serve his prison term in Algeria to be near his family. According to his defence team, Mami can expect to be released in a little more than two years, Tout sur l'Algerie reported.
