Malian troops attack al-Qaeda base near Algeria

2009-06-17

The Malian army on Tuesday (June 16th) attacked an al-Qaeda terrorist camp in the northern Timetrine region near the Algerian border, killing an unidentified number of terrorists and seizing weapons and vehicles, AFP reported. This first-ever assault by Malian armed forces against al-Qaeda in the country's north comes two weeks after the execution of British hostage Edwin Dyer. A military source was quoted as saying that Mali and Algeria were working "hand-in-hand" to pursue armed Islamists in both countries.

It is good to attack a terrorist when it is an "official" base, so why not attack the more dangerous "informal" bases, for example: the Polisario bases in Tindouf??? It is not secret to anyone that this base of separatists has become a training centre often frequented by desperados and obscurantist from the region's Al Qaeda and such. There, they could take advantage of international and Algerian aid without limit. A word to the wise! -Bye
