Algerian al-Qaeda member suspected in Briton's murder

Alleged Algerian terrorist Abdelhamid Abou Zeid, 43, aka Abib Hammadou, is a suspect in the al-Qaeda slaying of British hostage Edwin Dyer, Malian sources told the BBC on Thursday (June 4th). Zeid has been linked to the 2008 abductions of two Austrian tourists in Tunisia, and the 2003 abductions of European tourists in northern Mali. Dyer and other European tourists were kidnapped by al-Qaeda terrorists last January after attending a Tuareg cultural festival. In a statement published June 2nd on an Islamist website, al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb claimed responsibility for the killing.
