Cheb Mami to appear at French criminal trial

French-Algerian rai legend Cheb Mami plans to appear in a French criminal court on July 2nd to answer charges of attempting a forced abortion on his ex-girlfriend in 2005, Liberte reported on Monday (June 1st). Since 2007, Cheb Mami (Mohamed Khelifati) has been wanted on an international arrest warrant from Interpol. Following the singer's indictment last January, the international law enforcement body demanded that Algeria extradite him to France to stand trial. The singer, who is currently in Oran, declined to comment.
