Mauritania mediation talks continue in Senegal

The negotiations between rival Mauritanian political factions continued Sunday (May 31st) in Dakar, under the mediation of Senegal and a number of international organisations. Despite denials Saturday from former Mauritanian junta leader General Mohamed Ould Abdelaziz that parties had agreed to postpone the June 6th presidential elections, Senegalese mediator Foreign Minister Cheikh Tidiane Gadio vowed to achieve a breakthrough. "A failure of the negotiations remains completely excluded," Journal Tahalil quoted Gadio as saying late Saturday.
