Algeria boosts beach security for summer season

2009-05-26

Algeria will deploy 60,000 gendarmes to 14 coastal provinces from June 1st through mid-September to ensure the safety of summer beachgoers, Echorouk reported on Monday (May 25th). The annual "Dolphin" security plan reportedly covers 80% of Algerian beaches. Security officials were quoted as saying that an additional safety plan will be implemented June 7th at Tchaker stadium in Blida, when Algeria and Egypt play their African/World Cup combined qualifier.

Security is good, but making people aware is better. Large-scale awareness campaigns aimed towards citizens would surely permit us to do away with or at least limit the adverse effects of the fanatical, obscurantists “Ijramists'” obnoxious propaganda. The active participation of those concerned is indispensible to their security without to much zeal on the part of security officers. And, there is no need to exaggerate things, because any excess will count as a gain for the terrorists. And, why not limit the risks at the source by, for example, closing terrorist training centres like those in Tindouf???
