UNHCR: 10,000 refugees repatriated to Mauritania in 2008

More than 10,000 Mauritanian victims of the 1989-1991 ethnic purges were repatriated from Senegal in 2008, the UNHCR reported on Thursday (April 23rd). The most recent convoy left Senegal on Thursday with 357 refugees. Some 29,000 Mauritanian refugees remain in Senegal; 19,000 have expressed a desire to return to their homeland.
