Algeria extends election security measures past April 11th
2009-04-08
Algeria will extend the duration of heightened security measures put in place for Election Day on Thursday (April 9th), Echorouk reported. The presidential elections fall two days before the second anniversary of the deadly April 11th attacks on the prime minister's headquarters in Algiers and a police station in the capital's eastern Bab Ezzouar district. More than seven repentant terrorists surrendered last month in Boumerdes; some of them have reportedly provided information to security services about terrorist plans and newly-recruited suicide bombers.
